Firefighter injured after brush fire sparks at RSW Airport in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. At least one firefighter has been injured after a brush fire sparked just south of Terminal Access Rd and Air Cargo Ln at the RSW International Airport.


The incident was reported to the Lee County Port Authority Crash Fire Rescue at around 11:46 AM on Thursday.


The fire has sparked in a thick, brushy area just south of the short-term parking lot.


The fire, which was originally a couple of spot fires, quickly spready to around 2 acres in size.


The south strike team was activated and brush trucks from several fire districts in Lee County are assisting LCPA ARFF with the incident.


The fire is 100% contained at this time, but firefighters are still working to put out the flames.


At least one firefighter was injured after sustaining a burn injury to the hand and has since been transported to an area hospital.


The cause of the fire is under investigation.
