Firefighter suffers medical emergency while battling vehicle fire on I-75 near Colonial Blvd in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A firefighter reportedly suffered a medical emergency after multiple crews were called to a vehicle fire at MM 133 of southbound I-75 near the Colonial Blvd exit.


The Fort Myers Fire Department, South Trail Fire District, and Lee County EMS were called to the scene at around 4:12 PM after multiple witnesses reported a vehicle crash involving fire.


The vehicle was heavily involved in fire upon LCEMS’ arrival and the fire was actively spreading to the brushy area nearby.


Brush trucks and additional assistance from the Lee County Port Authority Crash Fire Rescue was called to assist with bringing additional water to the scene.


A firefighter from FMFD Station #15 reportedly suffered a medical emergency while battling the fire and was transported to an area hospital.


At least one lane is blocked on southbound I-75 and crews on the scene are reporting heavy backups in the northbound lanes.


The cause of the fire or additional injuries is unknown.
