NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — A firefighter has been injured after being struck by a vehicle while tending to a vehicle crash at MM 145 of I-75 northbound in North Fort Myers.

The Bayshore Fire District, Tice Fire District, and Lee County EMS responded to the incident at 9:01 PM.

Responders were originally called out to a vehicle that had crashed into a bear.

As crews were working to mitigate the crash, a firefighter from the Bayshore Fire Rescue District was struck by a vehicle that was reportedly going around 20-25 miles per hour.

The firefighter was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries have been reported as a result of both incidents.

Units on the scene previously had all all northbound lanes of I-75 at MM 145 blocked, but have since allowed traffic to flow through the right-hand shoulder.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
