Heavy delays on I-75 near Bonita Springs following vehicle pileup

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. — All northbound lanes of Interstate 75 at mile marker 116 are shut down after a multi-vehicle pileup involving several vehicles occurred on Thursday afternoon.


The Bonita Springs Fire District and Lee County EMS responded to the call at 2:46 PM.


A total of 12 vehicles are involved in two separate pile-up incidents.


One person was entrapped in the first accident, which involved six vehicles, and sustained serious injuries meeting "Trauma Alert" criteria.


The first accident involved more than five people, requiring incident commanders to declare the crash a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident.


Several chiefs from the BSFD are on the scene of a second accident at MM 117, 1/2 mile north of the first accidents, with six more vehicles that have piled up.


No injuries resulted from the second accident.


All northbound lanes are blocked.


This is an ongoing incident.
