CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man is in custody after he allegedly started shooting at mailboxes and street signs before barricading himself in somebody else's home off NE 10th Terr in Cape Coral.
The initial call was made at around 9:34 PM on Sunday night.
Multiple units from across the city immediately responded after 911 callers told police that someone was shooting at their mailboxes and street signs.
When police arrived, the man was barricaded inside of someone else's home at 825 NE 10th Terr and armed with a gun.
Due to the circumstances of the situation, several streets near the area were closed and the CCPD's Special Response Group, generally known as SWAT, was requested to respond.
We were on the scene as the SRG was giving verbal commands over a loudspeaker to a man inside of the home, saying 'This is the Cape Coral Police Department. If you are inside of 825 NE 10th Terr, come out with your hands up.'
After being told to exit the home over a dozen times over the loudspeaker, the man exited through the back yard, where five officers could be seen running towards him with rifles and a ballistic shield.
The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.
Our crews were on the scene and livestreaming the incident when the suspect was handcuffed and patted down by officers before being placed in the back of a patrol car.
The suspect also sustained an unknown injury, possibly from a K9 bite, and had to be transported to the hospital.
We are working to find the identity of the suspect involved in this incident.
The incident is under investigation.
