SOUTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man has been seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of US-41, south of S Airport Rd, in south Fort Myers.
The South Trail Fire District and Lee County EMS responded to the call at 10:22 PM on Sunday.
A witness we spoke to told us that the man appeared to be intoxicated and was wandering through traffic with a can of beer in his hand.
The man was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center as a trauma alert.
Shoes and various clothing articles could be seen scattered across the roadway.
The witness we spoke to estimates that the vehicle was travelling around 50 MPH at the time of the crash.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
Two northbound lanes of US-41 are closed at this time.
