CAPE CORAL, Fla. — One person has been seriously injured after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Surfside Blvd and Veterans Memorial Pkwy in south Cape Coral.
The Cape Coral Fire Department and Lee County EMS responded to the incident at 8:43 PM on Friday.
An approximately 98-year-old female sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center by LCEMS as a trauma alert.
Four other people were transported to area hospitals in unknown condition.
Scene commanders deemed the incident a "Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident" due to five people being injured in the crash.

The incident has been ruled a traffic homicide investigation by Cape Coral Police.
All lanes of Surfside Blvd are shut down.
Westbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Pkwy are also shut down.
The status of the victims involved is currently unknown.
